I

Coral’s Cry

Dare to consume me, but I’ll let you first seep through the surface, down the seafloor.

I’ll welcome you in, ’cause you wouldn’t have stopped, still wave you away, for we don’t belong.

Invisible grief of what’s lost and unborn, a wound cut so deep, a wound yet unknown.

Invisible grief. Decay all too slow. Not really, not ever. Oh, signs you ignored.

Wear me down, down, down till I’m nothing but ghost, see-through, and bruised. Can’t you see through the blue?

Maybe it’s for the best, no worse could come. Throw in your bait with a smile and a hook. Reel back your line. Time won’t easily turn.

The thrill is unkind. The fresh kills are out.
